Ergonomic mattresses
What is an ergonomic mattress and why should you choose it?

The choice of mattress is more important than people often think, as it has a huge impact on the quality of sleep and therefore on well-being and health. Several personal variables should be taken into account, such as body weight, sleeping position, firmness preference , any circulation problems or potential neck and back pain, and even dust mite allergies.

These purely personal features are closely related to objective elements that determine the quality of the mattress, including materials and technologies used to manufacture it.

In order to meet everyone’s unique sleeping needs, mattresses designed in recent years reflect the principles of ergonomics. Ergonomics is a scientific discipline that focuses on the interaction between the parts of a system and the function they were designed for, with the aim of improving the overall performance of the product and  increasing user satisfaction.

This has led to the increasingly widespread production of ergonomic mattresses, visually identical to regular ones, but including design features within their internal structure that make them more effective and comfortable, whatever position you sleep in.

The characteristics of ergonomic mattresses

Ergonomics is a fundamental concept when it comes to mattresses, as it is closely linked to the comfort and health of our bodies when we sleep.

What makes a mattress ergonomic?
Below you can find a list of the main features:

  1. Adaptability: an ergonomic mattress must be able to adapt to the shape of the body in order to provide adequate and even support. This is particularly important for people who sleep sideways or in unconventional positions.
  2. Support: ergonomic mattresses must properly support the spine and keep it in a natural position when sleeping. This helps prevent or reduce muscular and skeletal pain while promoting restful sleep.
  3. Weight distribution: ergonomic mattresses are designed in such a way that body weight is evenly distributed over the entire surface of the mattress, to avoid exerting excessive pressure on any part of the body. This is particularly relevant to help improve blood circulation and reduce the onset of numbness or tingling.
  4. Moulding: ergonomic mattresses must be able to mould to the body shape without losing their ability to spring back.
  5. The choice of materials: materials used in the mattress can influence its ergonomics. More specifically, ergonomic mattresses built with the following technologies are extremely effective: Helix® adaptive foam springs, pocketed springs and micro-springs, respiro® latex and Aquapure® Soya foam. In addition, the pairing with Bodyform® HD or memory foam makes these mattresses unique and improves their ergonomic properties.

As mentioned above, an ergonomic mattress meets the individual needs of each person, such as body weight, preferred sleeping position and any muscular or skeletal problems: all variables that should be considered when purchasing a new mattress.

By taking all these factors into account, choosing an ergonomic mattress that suits your personal needs can help you improve sleep quality, reduce pain and muscle stiffness, and improve the health of your spine and joints.
